Howdy! We're happy to be back with your favorite (mostly) design-related roundup by the girls and boys from the STRV design team after the Easter break. In this oversized issue we talk the future, design centres (yes mate, "centres"), the use of beta versions in production, copywriting and much more.

Hot news as Sketch introduces a bunch of upgrades mostly geared towards the beloved symbols. For instance—no pun intended—, 3.7 asks users to send every new symbol to a different page in the document aptly named "Symbols". Even though it's a completely different flow to what we're used to and adds a slight layer of complexity to the process, it initially comes out as a welcome change as it is especially handy for asset collecting... however. The drawback of this is that attempting to edit an instance of a symbol takes us back to that aptly named "Symbols" page, which of course makes us lose context of the symbol within the design itself.

Nevertheless, as you can see in this gif, editing text-based symbols (like lists or cells) is a very simple task, and an oddly satisfying one. We're looking forward to see the final 3.7 version with all remaining little things ironed out. This will be an interesting change. Are they setting the stage for Sketch 4?

Remember that using beta versions is probably not the smartest way to approach production work, but still, feel free to give it a try here.

INTERBRAND IS BACK

Designers' Weekly favorite Interbrand is back with another sweet rebrand, this time for the Australian Design Centre. The ADC is a cultural institution that aims to bring design and design thinking to a wider audience, an objective reinforced by its recently acquired facelift: a colorful, modular rebrand reminiscent of building blocks. REDESIGNING THE AMBER ALERT

A bit of an oldie here. For those who don't know what AMBER is, it's an automated notification sent in the unfortunate event of a child being abducted within a certain area. Earl Carlson took it upon himself to write a compelling, thoughtful feature on how to improve copywriting (a really big part of user experience) to influence user engagement.

MARVEL FOR APPLE TV

Yet another oldie. Marvel, a prototyping tool in the vein of inVision or Flinto, recently added the capability to run your sweet prototypes on your Apple TV. This gives them a slight edge over their competitors seeing how they are focusing primarily on mobile and web design.

THE FUTURE IS NOW, SCI-FI FANS

Fans of artists like Jean Giraud/Mœbius, Enki Bilal, Geof Darrow and generally, the sweet retro/sci-fi cyberpunk aesthetic, this might be right up your alley. Spanish artist Josan Gonzalez successfully funded a Kickstarter for a second volume of his art compendium The Future Is Now, and it's looking really good.

VAN SCHNEIDER V SAGMEISTER

Bearded whizz-kid Tobias van Schneider invited design legend Stefan Sagmeister over to his podcast for a nice hour-long conversation on the beauty of design versus the contemporary focus on functionality.

LINGO BY THE NOUN PROJECT

The folks at The Noun Project recently released a new tool for asset management called Lingo. It's smooth and plays well with multiple tools like Sketch, Slack, Adobe's Creative Suite and so on.
